Lots of designers request us the things they should charge for his or her services. I figured I'd reveal to you some financial training I’ve learned while building Cleveland Graphics Firm Go Media during the last 15 years.

This information will cover:
What must i charge?
Predetermined fee or hourly billing?
How do i do not be stiffed?
Must I have contracts?
Staying away from “Busters”
Will I require an accountant?
What’s a “Kill Fee”?
Pitching.
How do you send bills and track sales?

What must i charge?

This largely is dependent how skilled you're and just how many clients you've. Clearly, when you are beginning out you will be charging next to nothing. When Go Media began I had been charging flat-rates. For instance – I had been charging $100 to create a flyer. I'd spend 2 days (20+ hrs) doing a more sophisticated illustration for that flyer. So, essentially I had been making about $5/hr. This sucks, however i was doing things i loved.

Now clearly, beside me investing in a lot work and charging so very little, word got around fast. Soon I'd all of the $100 flyer jobs which i could handle. So, I elevated my price… $150, $175, $200, $300. Each time I had been condemned with work I'd up my cost. I believe this can be a great technique for the designer that's just beginning out: begin with suprisingly low rates and when you are getting busy enough increase the number you charge.

You'll lose some clients whenever you lift up your rates. But when you need to survive within the lengthy-cost you can’t allow it to be charging $5/hr. Presently Go Media charges $100/hr for print design and $125/hr for web and multimedia work.
